anyone here ever try cross straining potatoes? how is it done? the little buggers only produce a fruit (seeds)once in a blue moon! can the tubers themselves be spliced like a tree?

To find new varieties of potatoes, a grower will grow 2 vcultivars side by side and hope for some topside fruits. The seeds from the fruits are sprouted and grown out, and the potatoes examined. The potatoes that meet the growers criteria are kept for seed potatoes.

Potatoes do not breed true, meaning the seedlings grown out will have lots of different types of potatoes.
